WHAT YOU MUST NEVER FORGET ABOUT CREATIVITY

What you must never forget about “creativity”

Creativity has been generally defined as:
“the imaginative (or artistic) ability of a person to develop new and original ideas (or things).“ Or “the imaginative ability of a person to think and develop what no one has never developed before.”

But this definition usually makes it hard for people to understand the concept of creativity. This definition forces people to want to think out an idea ONCE, and hope it will be new and original (i.e. what no one has ever thought of before). When people do things like this, they realize that usually, even better things would have been done before. Then they immediately think that they are not creative. But it can be a very big mistake.

What you must never forget about creativity is the other definition I want to give it.

“’Creativity’ is another word for ‘improvement’. If you do something and then keep improving it, you become creative in it!”

This definition HELPS you to want to do more—that even when you think you’ve done (or seen) the best, you can still make it better! It makes you to BELIEVE more in yourself, and eventually HELPS you to become creative. You can be creative in anything only if you decide to keep improving on the things you have done (or improving what others have done before).

1.       You can compose a very creative text message only if you decide to keep improving on (editing) your first draft (at least 7 times). If you only forward the text messages people send to you, you kill your creativity. But if you improve the messages completely (at least 7 times) before you send it, you become creative.
2.       You can become creative with the way you interact with people if you can keep improving on what you say. You can become creative in your compliments to people if you choose to improve on the words you use daily. Don’t use the dictionary only, use the thesaurus also.
3.       You can become creative with your teaching skills if you continue to improve on the draft you’ve made.
4.       Etc.

The key is “improvement”. Your name can become synonymous to creativity (or genius or spectacular), if you keep improving your life. So when you improve on something, you discover that what you have done is new and original (what no one might not have done before). That’s creativity—IMPROVEMENT!

The sad thing is if you check the word “creativity” in the dictionary, you will most probable NOT find the word “improvement” as a close word. This could mislead you. That’s why you must NEVER forget this definition. And this principle can be applied to ALL the areas of your life.

Keep expressing excellence!
God bless you.
